The standard lorem ipsum passage

That is the 69-word passage most designers know. The generator starts with its opening sentence and continues with words drawn from the same vocabulary, so a long block reads like the familiar filler rather than the same paragraph repeated.

Placeholder text for designs, mock-ups and templates

Use it wherever real copy is not written yet: page layouts, email templates, app screens, slide decks, print proofs. Paragraph mode fills articles and cards; the word and character modes fit a heading, a button label or a meta description to its length limit; list mode fills menus and feature lists.

A lorem ipsum generator that fits character limits

Most generators only count paragraphs. When a design has a hard limit — a 60-character title tag, a 160-character description, a 280-character post — choose “characters” and the text fits the limit in whole words, so you can see exactly how a full-length string wraps.

Frequently asked questions

What is lorem ipsum?
Lorem ipsum is placeholder text used in design and publishing to show how a layout looks before the real words are ready. It reads like Latin but means nothing, so reviewers look at the design instead of the content. It is scrambled from a passage of Cicero’s philosophical work De finibus bonorum et malorum, written in 45 BC.
Where does lorem ipsum come from?
From sections 1.10.32–33 of Cicero’s De finibus bonorum et malorum ("On the ends of good and evil"). The word "lorem" is a fragment of "dolorem" — pain — cut from the middle of a sentence. The text is often said to have been used since the 1500s, but the earliest use anyone has verified is on Letraset dry-transfer sheets in the 1960s; desktop publishing software spread it in the 1980s.
How do I generate lorem ipsum with an exact character count?
Choose "characters" and type the limit — 160 for a meta description or SMS, 280 for a post. The generator fills as much of the limit as it can with whole words and ends with a full stop, so the text never runs over and never stops mid-word. The status line shows the exact length.
Can I get lorem ipsum as HTML?
Yes. Choose HTML and paragraphs come wrapped in <p> tags, list items in a <ul> with <li> items, ready to paste into a template. Markdown gives blank-line-separated paragraphs or a "- " bulleted list.
Is lorem ipsum bad for SEO or accessibility?
Only if it ships. Placeholder text on a live page is thin content to search engines and nonsense to screen-reader users, so replace it before launch. A quick way to catch leftovers is to search your codebase or site for "lorem" and "ipsum".
Is the generated text random each time?
Yes — each click of Generate draws new words from the lorem ipsum vocabulary. Sentences are 6 to 14 words long and paragraphs 4 to 7 sentences, which looks like natural prose in a layout. Nothing is sent anywhere: the text is made in your browser and never leaves your browser.
